EV® ELX 118P<br /> Loaded with an EVS-18K and an amp that produces 700 watts the ELX 118 powered Sub from EV is a great option for church installs where size is an issue and mobile systems that need to be portable. 70lbs is usually the most one person will want to carry and the price is excellent for a powered 18” subwoofer. <br /> The specs on this sub are (-10dB is 32Hz ~ 130Hz and -3dB is 42Hz ~ 100Hz @134dB) they show a sharp the drop off at 40Hz. That is good for most small PA systems to produce solid bass but not enough to shake drinks from a table in a Hip Hop environment.
I've had great luck with one of these and two ELX-112Ps for tops. This sub has very clean, crisp bass response and adds to any kind of music being played. The low frequencies you get from an 18" woofer really gives a full, complete sound to your system. <br /> <br /> The power this sub provides is adequate, in my opinion, for most medium sized events. I've been asked to turn the bass down because it was rattling the ceiling tiles too much (this particular venue had low ceilings). However, usually the power isn't going to blow people away. It makes a huge improvement to the sound quality and I can't imagine going back to no sub, but with hip-hop or certain electronic music it gets pushed to it's limits. I have to keep an eye on the sub throughout the evening to make sure it isn't clipping, but usually I don't have any problems.<br /> <br /> The handles on the side are nice, and makes it easy enough for one person to carry by themselves. I recommend getting the soft case that EV sells for it. The paint chips relatively easily, and especially in mobile applications you're going to see blemishes over time. <br /> <br /> Price considered, I still think this is one of the best values on the market today. You can get truly professional sound quality for around $650.
