Pioneer DJM2000 (Pioneer DJM-2000)
Pioneer DJM-2000 4 Channel DJ Mixer With Effects
Mixer Layout
The DJM-2000 inherits a larger footprint than its predecessors to accommodate a sectioned layout of features as well as cosmetically match the latest Pioneer CDJ series of digital media players. On the top center section of the mixer resides its EFX capabilities to give DJs a bounty of digital effects. Located on each side of the middle section is its audio mixing controls for connection of up to four digital or USB sources. Across the middle section, Pioneer added new INST FX (Instant Instrument FX) functions that allow DJs to further alter and create more sound effects. And, at the bottom center of the mixer is a large LCD touch display that provides DJs a window for remixing beats and adding effects with the ease of a simple touch of the screen.
Industry First Multi-Touch Panel
A first in the industry for audio mixers, the DJM-2000 incorporates a full-color 5.8-inch LCD multi-touch panel for adding audio effects. Users can simultaneously manipulate the displayed controls on the panel by touching different areas of the screen. Three different performance modes are available including:
Evolved Beat Effects
A section of the mixer resides an Evolved Beat Effects adopted from earlier versions of the DJM series of mixers to generate a multitude of sound effects. Numerous buttons were added for selecting multiple effects and beat parameters for additional performance capabilities. Further manipulation of the sound effects can be made using the Effect Frequency knobs that changes the low, mid and high frequency bands of the music. A turn of the knobs enhances the effects to each frequency band, i.e., an echo added specifically to the vocals of the music or a doubling of the hi-hat rhythm, providing incredible performance options.
Instant Instrument FX
The INST FX (Instant Instrument FX) provides six additional audio effects that include Noise, HPF, LPF, Jet, Zip and Crush. Each of the effects can be induced into the channel with a turn of the Filter knob. Additionally, the Parameter knob allows the effects to be fine tuned.
Pro DJ Link
When used specifically with Pioneer’s CDJ-2000 or CDJ-900 turntables via Pro DJ Link, the DJM-2000 becomes an even more powerful musical tool. The mixer incorporates four Ethernet ports in the back of the unit allowing up to four of the most recent CDJ turntables to be connected (via LAN cables) while sharing only one music-filled SD card1 or USB storage device. In addition, up to two laptop computers pre-installed with Pioneer’s music management software rekordbox™ can be interfaced with the DJM-2000 via LAN cables, in cases that two DJs are transitioning for their individual performances.
Live Sampler
A cool feature of the mixer is its Live Sampler capability that allows the sound from a microphone or from the MASTER output to be recorded directly into the mixer. The “sampled” sound can instantly be transferred via LAN cable to a CDJ-2000/900 for scratching.
Link Monitor
When linked with the CDJ-2000 player, the mixer informs the DJ of its connected status. The JOG rings of the turntable changes in color based on the current on-air status or channel number connection, providing quick visual indications to the DJ.
USB interface
The DJM-2000 features a USB audio interface2 that allows direct computer connection without the need for an external sound card. Up to four audio sources can be assigned to each channel providing even more flexibility. For additional convenience, the MASTER output can be connected directly to a computer for recording3 of performances.
Sound Quality
Continuing the prestigious reputation of Pioneer mixers, the DJM-2000 provides excellent sound quality. By utilizing balanced hybrid op-amp and a perfectly balanced output circuit in the analog processing stage, Pioneer managed to significantly decrease induced noise resulting in a dynamic range of 107dB with 0.004% THD for an extremely clean and powerful sound.
Additional features of the DJM-2000 include:
Nasty expensive... I'm a former DJM-2000/CDJ-2000 owner and I can't say anything which may justify that price. The worst: The DJM-2000 touchpad is very small, so when you use it for triggering you need either to be a kid or to have too small fingers for sure; there are solutions like Korg padKontrol which is better suitable for that use; DJM-2000 has only 1 no phantom-powered MIC input, while another models like the DJM-5000 (My current mixer) has 3 (no phantom-powered yet) MIC inputs; DJM-5000 has integrated dynamics and 1 ZONE output, while DJM-2000 has no that options (considering price, DJM-2000 should be integrated with at least the same dynamics and 2 ZONE options); the best is for sure the integrated effects, and I had a lot of fun with using the LPF (hot effects) and with using the ECHO and DELAY effects, but that behavior can be easily replaced with another mixer by chaining one EFX-500 and one RMX-1000 (As I have right now) attached to the send/return channels at the mixer. Basically I replaced my very expensive gear with 2xDJM-900 + 1xDJM-5000 + 1xDDJ-SX (it was one Traktor Kontrol S4 but right now I got the DDJ-SX this week) + 1xEFX-500 + 1xRMX-1000 + 1x HP Touchsmart 320 computer. The only of that stuff which I buyed since new were the DDJ-SX and the RMX-1000, all the others were at second hand (and in excellent conditions, was almost-new gear) and the final investment was at least 2/3 the budget I invested by buying the DJM-2000 and two CDJ-2000. So far a better combination for me. DDJ-SX is far a better investment this moment than buying any DJM-2000nexus.
I have only had the mixer for a few months so this is just an initial review and Iam doing a lot of DJing for weddings so my needs may be very different from the clubs so here are the gripes from the get go.<br /> <br /> A BIG MIXER LOTS OF REALESTATE as opposed to Denon X1700 (which I rate as 7 Starts)<br /> - Big area and then small knobs on MIC fiddly. Mic lead plugs from top not at back<br /> - Only one Mic input for all that space<br /> - no wireless interface with all that kit<br /> - Effects often have a mind of their own and are not as obvious to call as required<br /> - Assignable channel layout not completely flexible<br /> - sliders feel a little stiff and not free flowing<br /> - a bunch of lights in your face but none of which are really of any use<br /> - Lights that you do need are absent (line activity on mic)<br /> <br /> ----<br /> <br /> Look its not all bad this is a quality Mixer from Pioneer. Its expensive and I have yet to justify the cost but as I say for Club DJS and the alike Iam sure this is a real weapon. I happy with it it does what i need and a whole lots more but if I had the money again I would have gone another Denon X1700 I don't care if its a mix of pioneer and denon I love the SC3900 For scratching but for just playing songs nothing beats the display on the CDJ2000Nexus EASY!!!! but the mixer Iam disappointed but thats only coming from the practicality sense for what I do. <br /> <br /> -* I loose the first star for a HUGE mixer that seems to have a lot of empty space<br /> -* The price when there is some other great gear out there for less. <br /> <br /> My coffins have a laptop tray that slides out on the top so the MIC lead exiting out of the top annoys me.<br />
Fran Wurster: Hi I am currently evaluating if I should form up the cash and go CDJ 2000's or the DDJ SX. I have a seemingly dumb question for you. You said you got rid of the expensive stuff for 2xDJM-900 + 1xDJM-5000... Why do you have 3 mixers?
