The Ape Labs 2.0 and 2+ series may look the same on the outside, but there’s a big difference inside. The new Ape Labs 2+ series features upgraded internal hardware designed to support an exciting lineup of future software updates. While both the 2.0 and 2+ models perform identically right now, the 2+ models are built for next-generation features rolling out in 2025 and 2026—including advanced AI enhancements that elevate real-time music analysis and automate lighting effects far beyond the already impressive capabilities of Ape Labs’ iconic MusikMode.
The first major software update for 2+ fixtures is expected in May 2025, unlocking a groundbreaking room-scanning feature. Using a smartphone camera, users will be able to scan the room, auto-map fixture placement, and enable dynamic, location-based lighting effects and chases—no manual programming needed. And this is just the beginning. Ape Labs has committed to releasing a series of free software upgrades throughout 2025 and beyond. If you purchased an Ape Labs fixture in 2024 or 2025, you’re covered! The company future-proofed its hardware early so more users could take advantage of these upcoming innovations at no additional cost.
The renowned Ape Labs MusikMode stands unrivaled in the industry. With zero programming required, a single button press effortlessly synchronizes all Ape Labs products in the room (regardless of SKU) to collaborate and create a constantly evolving light show perfectly timed to the music. This isn't the typical "sound active" mode you’ve seen before—it’s a genuine light show that would challenge even a professional lighting designer to replicate through DMX programming.
Not a fan of DMX? No problem. While all Ape Labs lights come equipped with wireless DMX receivers, most users prefer controlling them with the intuitive iOS/Android app or RF remote. These control options allow for easy grouping, where multiple lights (regardless of SKU and with no quantity limit) can be assigned to one of four groups. You can change colors, adjust brightness, set programs, tweak speed or strobe settings, and more—all without affecting other groups. Additionally, you can control multiple groups simultaneously. With the app, you can create scenes that allow all groups to be independently set with the press of a button. (To use the app, 'Connect' is required and sold separately.)
The Ape Labs Mini 2+ is engineered to deliver exceptional lighting performance in a compact form factor. With a 15-watt RGBaW LED, this fixture offers rich and vivid color mixing, making it ideal for a wide range of applications. The IP65 rating ensures durability in both indoor and outdoor environments. The Mini 2+ also features a long-lasting rechargeable battery, providing up to 12 hours of operation on a single charge. It’s a perfect choice for professionals seeking reliability and versatility in their lighting setups.
Ape Labs is known for its “Keep it Simple” philosophy when it comes to lighting control. A beginner can typically operate an Ape Labs fixture within seconds of picking up an ApeRemote or launching the app—no instructions needed. But simplicity doesn’t mean a lack of features. Two standout features are "Grouping" and "MusikMode."
Grouping allows users to create DMX-like shows on the fly by assigning any number of mixed & matched Ape Labs SKUs to one of four groups, with full independent or universal control.
MusikMode automatically generates a music-reactive light show with just one button press. It uses proprietary audio analysis technology and factors in the total number of fixtures to craft a fully dynamic light show. Just don’t call it "Sound Active."
