Awesome device to use with my maxi lights. Easy to update software and quickly connects via bluetooth allowing for quick control of color changes. Software even allows you to save some preset colors of your choice.
The Ape Labs WAPP is a must-have if you are using Ape Labs fixtures in a large venue or if you have more than eight lights. It takes the ease of the remote and steps it up a lot of notches. I originally got it for the DMX transmitting functionality to create a very specific set of scenes at a gig and it definitely did the trick. It was easy to connect and program with the iOS app. However, you MUST update the firmware the first time you use it or some of the functionality will not work. Setup and firmware updates for the fixtures is really easy using this device and app. I've only used the standard "remote" mode and DMX Transmitter mode, so I can't speak for DMX Receiver mode. This device also makes it easy to put the lights in a power saving mode to make sure the lights last long enough for your entire session. All of the ApeRemote functionality is built-in, but simpler since you don't need to know the long-press tricks. The killer functionality is simply the range of the signal compared to the (already awesome range) of the ApeRemote. I also really love that MusikMode can be fully synchronized by having the WAPP being the sole microphone to sync all devices (but it sill gives you the choice of having the fixtures control themselves). The color-picker allows you to get the *exact* color you or your client is looking for. You can also save specific colors to add to the list of preset colors. I haven't had much time to try the chase and scene programming (as I do it in DMX mode), but that functionality is built in. You also have a full view of all of your devices, their group/address, and charge. It even allows you to identify specific features by having that light blink white. The thing I'm most looking forward to is some advancement in the functionality, look, and feel of the iOS app itself. I know it was a complete rewrite (and I'm glad it's not just Android anymore), so this is less of a complaint and more an excitement about what is to come! Definitely recommend this product if you are a power user of Ape Labs products!
Christopher Weeks: Can WAPP be used on non-ape lab products?
The W-App is a must have if you have multiple Ape Labs lights. I used it recently with 12 Cans and 4 Coins. The W-App is very easy use. It came charged, no need to plug it in unless you need to charge it. It was very easy to group and sync all the Ape Labs lights. It has multiple functions that you can use to create a light show. MusikMode looks great, you can set it from the W-App or each individual light. The W-App has a device tab that you can use to check the status and battery level of each light. I used the W-App and lights recently for 5 hours and only used approximately 12% of the battery from each device.
The W-App makes it so easy to control your Ape Lab Lights. With the options of putting the lights in 4 different groups it takes a fraction of the time to change scenes and colors compared to using the remote. The only issue I had was connecting my phone to the W-App when I first received it. After I was able to figure it out I have not had a problem since. I would recommend this to anyone with Ape Labs lights!
This is a great controller for Ape Labs. I use it as an easier way to control the lights like the small remote. What makes this great is that you can go to a color or chase instantly instead of using the arrows (like on the remote) to scroll until you find what you want. I have also already made my own programs with it. The fact that there is a visual aspect to it as well makes it worth having.
I have the Ape Coins and just bought 12 Ape Maxis....gotta have the W-APP to really get all the benefit out of these lights, You get complete color selection, it is battery operated, and you can set it to be the one mic source for Musik mode, as opposed to each light. That way even distant lights are getting the same amount of volume.
Our ape labs W-App has been game changing. This takes the control of the fixtures to a whole another level! Highly recommended!!
I got the Ape lab connect because it is advertised as being able to control other no-ape lab wireless lights. This is not true! After going back and forth with ape lab directly (They haven't been that helpful) I have not been able to control my other lights. I am left with having to wire (DMX Cable) my non-ape light from the connect. which completely defeats the purpose. I must say that I am disappointed with this claim that that the Ape lab connect can control other lights wirelessly and they have not put out a detailed video or instruction on how this is done. As far as adding more control to my Ape Lab sticks XL, it works great.
Tom Capo: Michael, I don't believe Ape Labs advertises that they work "wirelessly" with other lights. They do control non-Ape Labs wash lights, but Ape Labs wireless only works with Ape Labs. If you're trying to use wirelessly with Chauvet lights, you'll need to connect a Chauvet D-Fi transmitter to the W-App box.
Preston Fischer: Can the WAPP be used with non-ape labs fixtures in musikmode?
