Absolutely necessary. The FBT Vertus CLA 206A is a fantastic speaker, sure, but it has a delicate black coating that scrapes off easily on the edges exposing the bare wood. This cover fits nicely and has velcro flaps on the side to access the handles. A little pricy, but if you don't get these your speakers will start looking used after only a couple gigs.
