The TS-110BL is an impressively rigid single-shaft tripod, considering its light-weight aluminum construction and 9-foot tall extension. Its extra height makes the built-in leveling leg very useful for setting it at a precise 90-degree angle. The internal shock absorber provides just enough lift to help raise a 30-lb rig without becoming an obstacle to hauling it back down. With a tripod this refined, it's a shame to have to mark it down for trivial but crucial flaws that seriously undermine its performance. This tripod's worst offense is the loose fit of the 1-3/8 inch loudspeaker adapter rod at the top of its extension shaft. This wobbly afterthought makes a mockery of the precision engineering of the lower 90% of the tripod. A lesser but more dangerous oversight is the lack of a safety bolt or cable on the extension rod when fully compressed for storage. The only force holding this metal piston down is the friction exerted by the hand-tightened clamp midway up the main vertical shaft. Before I can safely put this tripod in use, I will need to fashion a restraining cable to guard against accidental release of this loaded projectile. In sum, I can recommend this 9-foot aluminum tripod to those prepared to correct its regrettable minor faults.
