This is for new DJs who want something simple to learn on without immediately outgrowing it. The layout feels very close to larger Pioneer DJ controllers, so transitioning later to club gear or higher-end rekordbox setups is pretty easy. The DDJ-FLX4 is a straightforward 2-channel DJ controller with enough core functionality to learn proper mixing fundamentals without being overloaded with advanced features. I liked that it works with multiple DJ platforms including rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro, Traktor Pro 4, Algoriddim djay Pro, and VirtualDJ. That flexibility is a big advantage for beginners who are still figuring out which software ecosystem they prefer. The controller keeps things pretty minimal. The effects section is basic but usable, and while there are no jog wheel screens or advanced performance features, I actually think that helps keep the workflow approachable for newer users. One limitation I noticed was the very short pitch faders. They work fine for casual mixing and learning beatmatching, but DJs who prefer long, precise tempo adjustments may eventually want something more advanced. USB bus power makes setup extremely easy for bedroom use, practice sessions, and small casual events. The Bluetooth support is also convenient for quick music playback and mobile-focused setups. The DDJ-FLX4 only includes RCA master outputs, so users planning to connect to professional PA systems regularly may eventually want a controller with balanced XLR outputs. For beginner DJs, home practice, small parties, and learning modern DJ software workflows, the DDJ-FLX4 is one of the easier controllers to recommend in this price range.
When used with fog or haze this laser provides surprisingly good crowd scanning capabilities. I used this light for a long time on auto-mode (which worked pretty good), but since adding DMX control I have not looked back. The Zooming, X, Y, and Z axis control gives a surprising amount of control and allows the user to fine-tune the shapes. For instance, I like to use the "cross" shape and alter it to appear as small hearts scanning on the wall behind the DJ. For the money, you wont find a better laser for small productions. The units are delicate, though, so be very careful when handling them! Without fog/haze the effect is lackluster - I wish I could include some photos of my pair of these in action!
