i use mine to control up lighting with more then 3 channels "white" and its great bang for you buck, if you need to learn how to use it there plenty of youtube videos on it.
I use this board with one Slim-par 56, and I love it. It has lots of options for chases and almost every effect can be synced to music through an internal microphone. It does take some tweaking with the sensitivity, however. All the effects can be adjusted with the sliders, making it versatile enough for any event.

The cons of this board are that it can only control 4 lights, the buttons make a loud click when pressed, and the strobe must be manually set back to zero on the frequency slider before being deactivated.

I would highly recommend this board to a beginner or someone with only a few wash lights. For bigger or more expensive rigs it doesn't fit in, but for a starting point it's great. I gave it four stars because of it's versatility and simplicity, but not 5 because it can only handle 4 lights, and you can't record any custom looks.

In any case, this was my first dmx controller and I would recommend it to anyone interested in getting started in wash or up-lighting.
