The sE Electronics sE8 Supercardioid combines the compact sE8 microphone platform with a tighter directional pattern designed for situations where source isolation is important. Its supercardioid response focuses pickup toward the sound source while reducing unwanted bleed from surrounding instruments, making it useful for both stage and studio applications.
At the heart of the microphone is a handcrafted 1/2-inch true condenser capsule featuring an ultra-thin 3-micron gold-sputtered diaphragm. Every capsule is individually tuned, and its precision-engineered electrode and backplate design help provide a smooth, balanced frequency response with excellent transient detail and natural sound reproduction.
The transformerless Class-A electronic design uses no integrated circuits in the signal path and is engineered for high dynamic range, clarity, and low distortion. Two switchable attenuation pads provide -10 dB and -20 dB settings, allowing the microphone to handle sound pressure levels up to 159 dB with the -20 dB pad engaged.
Selectable 80 Hz and 160 Hz low-cut filters, each operating at 6 dB per octave, help reduce low-frequency rumble, footfall noise, and excessive bass from close-miking. An all-metal chassis provides durability and helps reject electrical interference, while the gold-plated XLR connector provides a reliable signal connection. The sE8 Supercardioid is suited to acoustic guitar, strings, piano, woodwinds, drums, percussion, cymbals, overheads, choir, and other sources requiring detailed capture with increased isolation.
