Chauvet COLORstrip (Chauvet Color Strip)
The CHAUVET COLORstrip is an LED-fitted strip fixture. The color light strip can be controlled via four DMX channels, multiple modes accessible via the control panel, or an optional LED-FS1 controller. The COLOR Strip features built-in programs with automatic and sound-active triggers, and allows access to popular preset RGB mixed colors: yellow, purple, cyan and white. The fixture is equipped with pre-programmed flash, color chase, sequential color chase, color mixing and color fade patterns. Jacking the Chauvet COLORstrip into a DMX controller gives the programmer access to all pre-programmed features as well as to speed adjustments for fade and flash. At 38 inches long, 2.5 inches wide (96.5cm x 6.4cm),and weighing less than 5 pounds (2.05kgs), the Chauvet DJ COLOR strip is ideal for creating "runway" effects without cluttering up the catwalk.

These have been a staple for wash lighting in my DJ rig for the past 4 years. It's a great light. Very bright, very impressive to look at, lots of great chase effects, and decent fade effects. With it's awesome master/slave capability that gives it the ability to do chases as if you have several of these acting as one big light it's no wonder this light has stayed in production for this long already.

I only have 2 gripes about it:

1) It is not flicker free. If you have the light at full brightness you're fine, but if you use the color fade program, or try to DMX an RGB with any of the channels less than 100% you will get massive flicker.

2) This is a 4 channel DMX light, and it should have been 6, maybe 5 at the least. Chauvet, I don't know what you were thinking, but this light tries to combine too many functions on the same channels. Essentially, the red and green channels also act as strobe and auto program speeds. Plus, some chases on the mode slider have it where values 0-127 are "auto program speeds" then 127-255 are "sound active", but then others use 0-255 for just auto speed. VERY CONFUSING WHEN TRYING TO PROGRAM!!!!!!

Instead of having dedicated RGB channels where you just push up the faders and RGB mode kicks in, you have to find the narrow value range on the mode channel to get to color mix mode.

Despite the wonky DMX assignments/configuration it's still a great light especially at its price point. I would recommend for anyone looking to get multiple lights to use as wash for a t-bar or truss. Do not use for uplights as you will get RGB color cast on the wall close to the light fixture. This light needs a little room (a few inches) to breath before it mixes the color properly.
