Mackie TH-15A (Mackie TH15A)

Designed by the same team that produced the best-selling Mackie SRM450v2, the Mackie Thump Series Powered Loudspeakers deliver deep low-end and real power in a lightweight design that is extremely portable. Class-D Fast Recovery™ amplification pushes unmatched power to the high-frequency compression driver and bass-pounding high-output woofer. Plus, Mackie Active processing, including a precision crossover and driver time-alignment provides total optimization for maximum system efficiency. Versatile by design, Thump loudspeakers feature a user-adjustable 3-band EQ for tone control and, since they can be pole-mounted or used as a wedge, the Thump Series loudspeakers represent the best value available for a complete stage solution.

More than Just a Powered Speaker Cabinet

Sure, Thump loudspeakers have a built-in power amp—in fact, each have two of them. Our Class-D Fast Recovery™ low-frequency amp drives the woofer more efficiently with less heat byproduct than other speakers. But so much more goes into a Mackie loudspeaker design than just amplifiers. Mackie Active technology (based on the popular SRMv2 Series) divides the frequencies via a precision 2-way crossover and also time aligns the signals so low-frequency and high-frequency signals arrive in sync to every member of your audience. Active compression provides a first line of defense for the drivers and thermal circuitry protects the amplifiers and power supply should things get too hot. All the onboard electronic systems work together dynamically to produce superior quality sound previously unavailable in this price range.

Portability Meets Versatility

For most people, portability is paramount. That’s why Thump loudspeakers are ultra-compact and lightweight, especially the TH-12A which is less than two feet tall and weighs in just over 25lbs. And regardless of application, there’s a right Thump for the job. Both deliver unmatched low end, that’s why they are Thumps. But, if you are a DJ and really need to bump, the TH-15A’s large woofer is the perfect choice. For vocal-only scenarios and applications with acoustic instruments that require superior midrange, the TH-12A shines.
Not only are Thump loudspeakers superb PA enclosures, they also make a superior monitor wedge—just lay the cabinet on its side and turn it up. The compact, lightweight design means zero strain, whether mounting it on a high pole or loading up the van. Ultra-wide frequency response makes them ideal as a keyboard, vocal or even bass guitar monitor. Thump loudspeakers have incredibly smooth response and dispersion over a wide range of frequencies, so you can crank ‘em up and they still sound smooth and never harsh.

Exceptional Sonic Performance

Thump Series powered loudspeakers put out a tremendous amount of sound for their size and price tag. The 2-way ported design generates ample quantities of chest-pounding bass, and their 1" compression driver ensures smooth, wide dispersion. We even inserted a 3-band equalizer at the input to give you all the tonal control you could ever want, with an available 15dB boost or cut at 80Hz (low shelf), 100Hz to 8kHz (sweepable mids) and 12kHz (high shelf). With their extremely versatile EQ, you can add some extra thump to that kick drum, bring out the sizzle in your hi-hats, add pop to vocals or correct acoustic anomalies in the room.

Review Mackie TH 15A The Mackie TH 15A is the Mackie entry level powered speaker. Having a digital amplifier means that these are very light at 36lbs. The TH 15A has a 15” woofer and produces decent low frequency. The overall volume of this speaker is impressive and a pair would be plenty for a small room with either an acoustic act or a Karaoke setup. Mobile DJs looking for a portable system may also find this a suitable option. Club DJs or those looking to put drums through the system would probably need more bass. The limitation here is that the speaker distorts well before its maximum volume and even carefull setting of the mid EQ will not eliminate this. The other problem here is the input. The TH 15A has only an XLR connector input. Most products in this price range offer both ¼ inch and XLR connectors (often with separate volume controls). If you ever wanted to plug your iPhone or computer into the speaker you would need several adaptors (1/8 stereo to ¼ inch to line matching transformer). Pros: Great price, Loud, lightweight, Sweepable mid frequency Cons: Distorted mid frequencies, No ¼ inch input,

These were my first powered speakers for DJing, and they served me well. They sounded very good all around. Decent bass, mids, and highs. Not outstanding, but for your non-audiophiles they will sound very very good. They don't sound very good at low volumes, but they're called loudspeakers for a reason.

At high volumes, or very bass-heavy songs, there is a bit of noise created by the air ports, which are a little rough. Air rushing in and out of the speaker passes though a rough edge on the air port and creates a "whooshing" sound (at least that's what I think is the problem). I usually used mine with a subwoofer system, so I had my bass turned down using the mixer on back. Solved that problem.

They get adequately loud for most parties, however I have had issues with clipping before. If you're pushing them hard for a long time, keep an eye on the clip light to make sure you aren't giving them too much to handle. Having the bass turned down and letting a subwoofer handle the low end helps these guys keep chugging all night.

I love how portable these speakers are. The two handles on the side and relative light weight make them easy for anyone to carry. The plastic body is forgiving to getting thrown around a bit. One of mine did develop a small crack after a small drop, but lucky for me it didn't hurt the sound quality at all.

Great beginner speakers, or even for the pros. I wouldn't have a problem going back to these if my EV's happened to die on me.
